About Lanternbox
We started in 2019 after two of us lost several years of photos to a broken laptop. We wanted a backup that runs on its own, keeps the data in Europe, and does not sell it, so we built one.
We are a company of 31 people, based in Munich, with staff also in Finland and Poland. We are paid by subscriptions, not by advertising, and we do not sell data or use anyone's library to train software. The company, the staff and the servers are all in the EU, so your files are stored under EU law.
We use open formats and a documented API, and the export in the app actually works. If you decide to leave, you can take everything with you.
